AKG C451B – Cardioid Studio Pencil Microphone Review

The AKG C451B is a wonderful microphone and reasonably priced as well.

I found the best price through this link.

This mic has a surprisingly good low end response for a small capsule microphone and a nice high end boost above 5kHz.
The AKG451 has a nice switchable low-end roll off at 75Hz and 150 Hz as well as a -10 and -20 dB pad which makes it a very versatile microphone.
I use this mic a lot on acoustic guitars, overhead percussion, and occasionally vocals. The matched pair make wonderful piano microphones.

Some of the features of the AKG 451 are:

  • Identical acoustics to legendary CK 1
  • Precise, nearly frequency independent cardioid
  • Extremely accurate signal transfer and ruler-flat on-axis frequency response
  • Also available as a matched stereo pair
  • All-metal body for excellent protection from RF interference
